FRESH CUT HERBS
FROM OUR BEDS TO YOUR BOWLS
Basil
A rich, leafy, delicate annual originally from India and brought to the Greeks by Alexander the Great who named Basil, King (basilikon).
It can be used to reduce joint pain, improve breathing, boost the immune system and aid digestion as well as acting as an insect deterrent. Don’t put it in the fridge or it will go grey but do use it within the week for the best flavour.
For breakfast – it’s never too early in the morning for a caprese. Make sure your tomatoes are at room temperature and your mozzarella is the best.
For the family – pasta, pesto has always been such a staple go to in our house, especially when extra children turn up unannounced. Use the basil to blend your own pesto in the Nutribullet with pine nuts, (I use cashews,) olive oil, garlic and pecorino and mix into your favourite pasta. Any left over pesto can be used to dress anything from steak to salmon.
Make it special – few things are more understated and delicious that basil icecream. We recommend the Riverford Basil Ice-cream Recipe. It’s herbidacious!
